Mobile Magazines are mobile applications in the context of TV programs, news papers and magazines. They include a selection of news, quizzes, polls, voting, photos, videos, ringtones, wallpapers and sponsor information. An example is the Mobile Magazine for X-Factor and Idols.

Mobile Guides

Mobile Guides are similar to Mobile Magazines, with more emphasis on information and orientation for visiting events, musea, theme parks and cities. Very practical are for example interactive maps and activity overviews from which users generate their own agenda. Example Mobile Guides are the KPN Mobile Museum Guide and the Mobile Guide for the Cross Media Picnic. For Volkswagen, Service2Media has developed a Mobile Guide with personal traffic and route information.

On-device

Mobile Guides and Magazines are mobile Java applications, or 'on-device portals', that users download on their phones. Dynamic content is refreshed online via the mobile network as soon as the user selects it. If a device appears not to support Java, the user automatically receives the Mobile Internet version of the application.

Benefits of on-device portals compared to mobile internet sites are:

    •  Best match of house style and interactive graphics

    •  Easier navigation by using the left and right softkey.

    •  Control over device capabilities, such as camera,

        bluetooth, GPS and audio/video streams
    •  Launches locally on the device, simplifying re-use

       without the need to save as bookmark.

    •  Automatic user recognition, eliminating the need for user login.
