De Telegraaf today has launched a free java application for the mobile phone, developed by Service2Media. The application allows users amongst others to view the paper version of De Telegraaf and zoom in to articles.
The premise of the application that one has always and everywhere access to the latest news of De Telegraaf. In addition, visitors can find the weather and traffic, financial information and scores and standings of many sports. As a unique extra the digital version of the complete paper newspaper is added. Digital versions of newspapers were hitherto reserved for use on computers.
Patrick Loppé, Channel Manager Mobile at De Telegraaf: “The application fits in our plans to offer our content on all platforms. Ultimately, our visitors decide where and how our news is read. Moreover, with the application we can realise a number of future ideas that are impossible with a mobile site.”
The application is the second mobile manifestation of De Telegraaf. The mobile site of the Telegraph is one of the largest mobile sites in the Netherlands and reached 170.000 unique visitors per month with 5.6 million page views. Last year the reach grew by more than 100%.

De Telegraaf application provides a richer user experience and more possibilities than the mobile browser version, which is also developed by Service2Media. This Java application is suitable for the majority of mobile devices in the market, including Nokia, SonyEricsson and Samsung. In addition, the iPhone version is coming up.
The application can be downloaded via SMS (send MOBILE to 4422) and is also part of the Vodafone Application Manager which is launched today as well. This enables mobile users in the Netherlands to download applications that facilitate and improve the access and usage of mobile Internet on their phone.
