Bringing complex medical research to the iPad
Background Story: The official journal of the American College of Cardiology is the leader in it’s field, JACC publishes original peer-reviewed clinical and experimental reports on all aspects of cardiovascular disease.
Topics covered include: coronary artery and valve disease, congenital heart defects, vascular surgery, cardiomyopathy, drug treatment, new diagnostic techniques, findings from the laboratory, and large multicenter studies of new therapies. Symposia, clinical reviews and updates, editorial commentary, and letters are regular features.
JACC also publishes abstracts of papers presented at the annual scientific sessions of the American College of Cardiology and the reports and recommendations of the Bethesda Conferences on current topics in cardiovascular disease.
Having developed the Elsevier iPhone applications Scopus and ScienceDirect, Service2Media was the logical partner for Elsevier to help develop this new iPad application for JACC. By understanding the complexity of the large amount of content, Service2Media was able to create a sustainable solution for presenting the various forms of media and integrating the high level of user interaction.
Functionality:The JACC iPad edition offers everything users have come to expect from their weekly issue, but now it’s enhanced by further, editor-selected resources from CardioSource, and everything is fully integrated into one app. In the JACC iPad edition, users can intuitively and quickly navigate journal articles and the related video, audio, and commentary which provide valuable context. Review relevant guidelines, slide sets, clinical trial summaries, ACCEL interviews, journal scans, image collections and author bios with a touch of a finger. It’s that rich diversity of content which makes JACC iPad edition so useful.
A unique and highly interactive feature that the iPad app offers is the Scrapbook. Users can select articles, slides and images of interest and save them for later use in their own custom personal folder.
