Background Story: Al Jazeera selected Service2Media, a member of the BlackBerry® Alliance Program, because of our excellent capabilities across multiple devices and more specifically for BlackBerry® smartphones.
Al Jazeera wanted to stand out from traditional news Apps, by developing an App with high usability, but at the same time a unique look and feel. Following creative meetings and functional discussions, the graphical and interactive design and user experience for the App were agreed. Service2Media came up with various design scenarios, reaching beyond the typical design for Apps on smartphones running the BlackBerry OS, Android or iOS, which best matched Al Jazeera’s brand values.
The design team also created a unique dashboard navigation method using larger images that not only works perfectly on multiple platforms but was easy to switch around from the English version of the App to cater for the Arabic right to left orientation.
The single design has supported multiple deployments and enabled evolution of the App, saving a great deal of time, effort and cost.
Functionality: Apart from delivering news content in all its forms the Service2Media Apps require back-end support capabilities to deal with the massive user volumes Al Jazeera needs to cater for. Due to recent developments in the Middle East, the Service2Media platform needs to be ready to deal with volumes that easily multiply by 20, in times at news peaks.
